Maldivian Atol 1
This is one of my ceramic and glass wall art pieces. They are an interpretation of a satalite view of a Maldivian Atol/Coral Reef with turquoise waters. Lots of people are loving them at the Marlay Summer Fair on this weekend and a few have already sold! I am selling them at approx half price! There are a few pieces in all different sizes and of course are all different as with all of my work. I also make miniature pieces in the same style as pendants for neckpieces.

just a short snip bit to show you a snap of a piece I was working on a few weeks ago. It is a ceramic pregnant torso which I decided to try out in a raku firing. I wasn’t terribly happy with the result and it didn’t give me the right feel from it when I hung it up on the wall in my living room. So I pondered on it for a while and then it hit me! I found a spot where ‘I think’ it works really well and blends beautifully with it’s surroundings! I am delighted with it now. a place for everything and everything in it’s place. The beautiful and natural way in which the flames hit the piece in the raku firing are so harmonious with nature and therefore that is where I felt it should belong.

another beautiful day yesterday and whilst I was getting down and dirty (no really!) with a raku firing i set up this little guy with a ball of clay and some plastic and wooden ‘tools’ and he was as happy not to mention creative! He didn’t move from that bench for at least 2 hours!!! (he’s only 23 months!). Start training young! A budding artist,,,don’t you think!!?
I will get back to the jewellery updates soon i promise! Nice to have a little break though! Although I am still working away on orders for a few one-off neckpieces that have been coming in recently as well as the new showcase customers reordering already which is fantastic! The pieces are realy working well in the shops and people seem to be falling in love with them! So exciting!!

What a beautiful sunny day it was today! It was so lovely that i decided to take my work outside! one of the tiny perks of this job! (albeit i don’t really see it as a job, more of a ‘therapy’ really!)
The shot above is of some abstract bowls i am working on whilst they are drying in the sun, for the Clock Tower Art Gallery which is opening next Thursday in Cobh, Co. Cork! Check it out if you are in the area or make a day out of it! Cobh town is such a pretty place to go for a day out! i am also working on some wall pieces…..have to wait and see how they turn out!!

Life Size Pregnant Torso! Something Totally Different! & Larger!
hi or should i say good morning! I have just come in from my studio where i was working on something quite different. A new art gallery is opening up in Cobh, Co. Cork. They contacted me to ask if they could stock my jewellery. but because I am already supplying Individuals (a craft shop in the same town) i had to give them exclusivity. So.I said i could supply them with my ceramic art! the type you can’t wear! so i was working on much larger pieces than the jewellery and i must say it was fantastic! getting really dirty and messy with lots of wet clay! It’s been a while since i have made anything large except for the life size pregnant torso i did for a friend of mine not so long ago who had her first baby. the pieces are all drying at the moment and hopefully in a few days they will be ready for firing! can’t wait! i am going to be experimenting a little with colour and textures so fingers crossed thay turn out ok and will be accepted by the gallery. I will post them here also if they turn out to be any way interesting!

- Raku pieces being washed to remove ash residue
30/03/09
After waiting for the white raku pieces to soak in a light cleaning solution (skin friendly!) I today realised that the pieces did not come out as well as i had hoped. The white was not white enough! It was probably a result of not enough glaze or possibly too much reduction (the part where we take the pieces from the flames and quench them in organic combutibles). So off glazing for the evening, radio on and enjoying the therapy of it all!! I will post up here when ‘hopefully’ the next batch look good enough to use in a piece.
Managed to get a RAKU firing on this morning! Just as well because moments after we had just finished and it started to rain! (raku is always done outdoors, well the way we do it here is anyway, i wouldn’t risk burning down the studio!). And then a huge gale started! we got some lovely white crackle pieces which we will use for the long white and lime, white and orange and white and aquas. We also did some pieces with a lovely cobalt blue glaze, but they came out all metallic with lots of bronze! Excited thinking about the pieces I can make up using those!
